Don't forget to come to Mar's Cafe (2318 University Ave Des Moines) at 7pm tonight. Come meet others interested in raising chickens and ask questions of those who have raised chickens in town before.
I should come to the meeting as well I raised or helped raise chickens all my life. First on parents farm and then for their grocery business. We had chickens and Guinias here is Harvey for several years. We found out the had to be penned to keep the hawks from devouring them. We had bantam as well. The bantams sat on the Guinias eggs and when they hatched they lived the life of bantam instead of guinias. Guinias are huge birds and bantams are tiny. Very much fun. We finally gave what we had left away.
